WHO is the UN agency specialized in health issues. The agency is in charge of elaborating guidelines on health issues with a worldwide range of action, leading programs of epidemiologic monitoring and public health, promoting the observation of health determinants (individual, social and environmental), collecting and spreading health indicators and statistics, reducing hindrances to the right of access to health and treatments, promoting effective public health policies. WHO deals with alcohol under several aspects, aiming both to the reduction of alcohol related diseases and the prevention of alcohol abuse related harms.
