It was published in the journal "Addiction Research and Theory," the article "Familial Drinking in Italy: Harmful or protective factors?" with the results of a survey carried out in 2006 by the University of Boston in collaboration with the Osservatorio and Format Research. The research was conducted in two Italian regions: Umbria and Abruzzo. The interviewers were allowed alcohol with meals in a family setting while growing up may protect against harmful drinking. A few days ago was released Eurobarometer Report on 2009 data. According to the survey, Italy and Portugal are European countries with the highest percentage of abstinence from alcoholic beverage in Europe. In Italy 39% of respondents reported they haven’t drunk alcohol in the last 12 months (compared with Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands where the percentage of drinkers settles around 90%). Top "heavy" consumer is Irish.
